When you think about the key difference between marketing and advertising, picture it this way – marketing is the pie and advertising is a slice.
Simply put, marketing is all the avenues used to link a product to a client. Concordia University describes marketing as “a process that involves design, creation, research and data mining about how to best align the idea of a product or service with the target audience.” Advertising, on the other hand, is just one particular piece of the puzzle in the marketing universe. With advertising, the goal is to get the word out about a product or service through channels such as social media, billboards, radio or print ads. After we’ve created a marketing strategy, then we can make that product or service known to an audience or marketplace through advertising. Wooo – was that enough words?
